About Bali

Bali isn’t just a destination, it’s a feeling. An island full of contrasts, culture, and deep spiritual energy. Lush and vibrant, ancient and alive, it’s the kind of place that stays with you long after your return flight.

A little history…

Bali is one of over 17,000 islands in Indonesia, and it has a cultural identity all its own. While the majority of Indonesia is Muslim, Bali is predominantly Balinese Hindu, a unique blend of animism, ancestral worship, and Hindu influence from India.

Offerings of flowers, rice, and incense, called canang sari, are placed daily in homes, temples, and even on scooter dashboards. Ritual is everywhere, woven into daily life. From sacred ceremonies to temple festivals, you’ll see and feel a deep respect for tradition, ancestors, and nature.

Historically, Bali was a series of small kingdoms until it was colonized by the Dutch in the early 1900s. Despite waves of external influence, Balinese culture has remained remarkably resilient, rooted in community, art, and spirituality.

Why Bali is so special

There’s a reason Bali is called the “Island of the Gods.” Energy here feels different. It’s not just the breathtaking landscapes or temples tucked into the jungle. It’s the feeling of being held, of life slowing down, of reconnecting with what really matters.

Bali has long been a sanctuary for artists, seekers, surfers, and skaters. It draws in people who want more, more depth, more beauty, more soul. And once you arrive, it’s easy to understand why so many never want to leave.

Why we chose Bali

Bali isn’t just the backdrop for this retreat, it’s home. This is where I rebuilt my life after some of the hardest chapters I’ve ever faced. It’s where I healed, created, and dreamed again.

It’s also where I built my roller skating business from the ground up, and where the very idea for Kaleido was born. This island gave me something I didn’t even know I was looking for freedom. Freedom from the daily grind, from pressure, from the need to constantly “be” something.

There’s something unbelievably special about this place. The energy, the people, the rhythm of life, it holds you in the exact way you need. I can’t wait to share it with you.
